Echolink Download & Installation Information

EchoLink® software allows licensed Amateur Radio stations to communicate with one another over the Internet, using voice-over-IP (VoIP) technology. The program allows worldwide connections to be made between stations, or from computer to station, greatly enhancing Amateur Radio's communications capabilities. There are more than 830,000 validated users worldwide — in 162 of the world's 193 nations — with about 5,500 online at any given time.

The latest echolink version for downloading can be found at www.echolink.org. Simply click on "Download" found on the main page and follow the instructions. This file is a self extracting zip file of about 2.77 MB. Once downloaded locate the file in the folder that you choose, (saving it to your desktop is strongly recommended!). Double click the newly downloaded file and you will find yourself being introduced to a setup wizard and installation process.

At this point it should be noted that you have one of two choices to make. Select yourself as either a Single-user or sysop. The single-user category is most common for those just getting started. The sysop category opens additional setup parameters for those who will be using a radio connected to the computer for linking purposes or possibly a repeater or HF gateway.

The setup wizard is rather straight forward and in most of the cases the default parameters are quite sufficient. The Help File included in the down load is a marvelous document. If used and studied you will normally find the answer to just about any question that concerns you.
